A Busy Person’s Guide to a Healthy Lifestyle

As an entrepreneur or freelancer, you have to be at your best for the success of your business. We’ve got you covered with our guide to a healthy lifestyle.

When we’re busy focused on setting up shop for our businesses, side hustles or launching on any new career path, our health is one of those things that often get overlooked.

Many of us opt to grab a packet of corn chips when we’re rushing to a meeting on an empty stomach or order a pizza for dinner when we can’t fathom leaving our laptops in order to actually cook. But trying to maintain such a routine will eventually lead you to crash.

Bad habits are hard to break but we’ve rounded up some tips on achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle — even for the busiest person.

Do Cardio and Resistance Training

Regular cardio exercise does wonders for overall health. It helps to fend of stress, is good for your cardiovascular health and improves your stamina. The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) recommends 30 minutes of moderate cardio, at least five times a week.

How to do it: Two 15-minute sessions squeezed in a whole day are as good as one 30-minute session. The key to effective exercise is “intensity”. If you are short on time do exercises that quickly ramp up your heart rate. If we work from home — there are lots of workouts that you can do in the comfort of your home. When faced with a choice between stairs or elevators, take the stairs every time.

Get Enough Sleep

Entrepreneurship and getting enough sleep sound almost hilarious. Pulling all-nighters while working on your business is probably standard (especially if you have a day job), but it’s not the best idea for keeping you on your toes during the day.

How to do it: Yes it might be necessary to pull an all-nighter sometimes, but you should not make it the norm. When you must pull an all-nighter, try to squeeze in a 1 to 2 hour nap the next day to make some of the difference and to ensure that you can function properly. Good sleeping habits will help you throughout life.

Stay Hydrated

Essential water intake is very important to fitness but is unfortunately not understood by many. Remember if you are feeling thirsty that means you are already dehydrated. Dehydration can make you more vulnerable to illness and infection.

How to do it: Invest in a water bottle that you’ll actually use — and keep it close. Infuse your water with fruits, vegetables or herbs. Mix juice with sparkling water. Evening using a straw can help keep you motivated to drink plenty of water and stay hydrated.

Stay Healthy for Yourself, Your Family and Your Business

As an early stage entrepreneur or freelancer, you have to be at your best in order to drive your business forward. But the key to this is maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
