Behind-the-Scenes: The Well Connected

The Well Connected

Jackie Clarke, the founder of The Well Connected, takes us behind-the-scenes of her fashion, beauty and lifestyle communications agency.

The Well Connected is a creative fashion, beauty and lifestyle communications agency specializing in swag bag curation and interactive events.

We pride ourselves on connecting with clients through edgy and contemporary mediums developed for fashion, beauty and lifestyle brands through events and social media.

My business came about through various experiences with events, celebrities and brand development in college. I started this agency without really knowing what PR was or what I was doing.

I started my business because I felt held back in other agencies.

For the next eight years, I interned for a lot of agencies in the PR, event and fashion worlds, learning and seeing things I never knew existed. I also saw opportunities to take what I’d learned and re-apply in with a creative way.

I started my business because I felt held back in other agencies. I saw an opportunity for change and to take my experiences and amalgamate it into something fantastic. So far, it has been everything I’ve ever dreamed of!

In my mind, The Well Connected is the perfect PR and events agency.

Behind-the-Scenes

A typical day starts at 5:10 am. I call that the intention stage. I wake up and set the mood and intention for my day.

I normally lay in bed for approximately for 10 – 15 minutes and let my body naturally wake up. No, phones, no tablet or computer, I just think about how I want my day to go.

After I’ve set my intentions, I shower and get myself ready for the day ahead.

6:00 am – 7:00 am

Every day brings something different. For instance, I may be working on a contract or commuting to someone’s office to work from their space for the day.

If not, I am at home, in my office, getting my laptop up and running as well as going over my calendar for the week and checking my notes, today list from the day before, and scanning over emails and my social media, and reply to the most crucial ones right away.

8:00 am – 9:00 am

This one-hour block is critical to my business. I am online searching for, what we in the industry call “clippings”.

PR agencies, normally clip online, broadcast or print press about their clients from the previous day. I do a search online for my client’s brand, service or product to see where they’ve been mentioned.

I also, check to see if one of my placements have been posted. Once I’ve searched the web and newspapers, I compile everything in a document and send to my client before 9:00 am.

Once the “Good News Notes” have gone out, it’s back to checking all my emails and seeing what is a priority and what needs to be answered.

9:00 am – 1:00 pm

I’m a bit of a control freak, and I love a good schedule. I work on specific clients for one to two-hour blocks at a time. This ensures that all my clients are being “touched” every day and it allows me to specifically focus on that brand and schedule client calls or meetings.

1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

It’s lunch time! I literally shut down and go out to eat or make a nice lunch at home and catch up on a show or watch the local news on CP24.

For me, it’s important to disconnect at some point in the day and get back to some sort of normality. This one hour also allows me to refocus on the next set of tasks and walk into my work with a clear mind and headspace.

2:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Depending on my day, I could be heading out to meet a client downtown or preparing for an event, or I may be getting ready to work on a huge proposal.

That’s the one thing I love about what I do — my days aren’t so routine (which is weird because I’m such an organized control freak). The unscheduled chaos fuels me.

However, if I’m at home, it’s back to working on different aspects of my client’s needs — making calls, setting up meetings or preparing required documents.

6:00 pm – 9:00 pm

This is where I try to have a personal life. LOL!

I may go out with a friend, catch up on one of my shows, or simply relax. However, as my client’s needs always come first, I am 50% on my phone or tablet, answering more emails or working on personal projects for The Well Connected.

There are times that I will be on a conference call with a client in Vancouver or Los Angeles. A lot of what I do is accommodating my overseas clients, so overall, my work does feed into my nights and personal time.

9:00 pm – 10:00 pm

I try (and it’s a hard try) to get into bed around this time. My days are so fueled, that I like to get into bed early so I can be 110% in the morning.

I have recently started a nighttime regime, which takes approximately 20 minutes and from there, I take 10 minutes maximum and check my emails one last time and then, it’s off to bed.

As stressful and chaotic as my work can be, I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

I love that my days are so unique and that anything and everything can happen. I work with such a wide variety of brands and great people daily, and those interactions fuel my creativity.

It’s what causes my brand and my business to thrive. I put in a lot of work and I work hard to give my clients and audience nothing but the best.

As stressful and chaotic as my work can be, I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
